Step X is the blocking of any residual surface functionalities present after the surface activation (step A1) and amine coupling (step A2) with ethanolamine. [20]
Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to one or more of the penicillin binding proteins (PBPs); which in turn inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls, thus inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis. Bacteria eventually lyse due to ongoing activity of cell wall autolytic enzymes (autolysins and murein hydrolases) while cell wall assembly is arrested. [21]

Again, the very nature of the baking soda is believed to be the causative agent.[24]

Their biggest disadvantage is a salty, unpalatable taste. Many modern dentifrices that contain sodium bicarbonate , either as the sole abrasive or one of several, disguise the saltiness with flavoring and sweetening agents .[26]
The molar quantity of a carbonate salt compound normally is determined by pH control considerations when aqueous formulations are prepared. The content of a carbonate salt compound can be varied to control the pH at a desired level in the range of 7.5-12. [27]
