4.5 Mixing Considerations

The proper mixing of bicarbonate concentrate is a top safety issue for every patient, at every facility.
Mixing Circulation
Stories about the efficacy of baking soda in controlling garden fungi have circulated for many years. The use of bicarbonates is a welcomed alternative to other fungicides because, both sodium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate are recognized as safe food additives and do not have adverse environmental impacts. [2]
Place oysters on a microwave-safe dinner plate in a circular pattern. Sprinkle with bacon mixture. [3]
To provide mixing in the reactor, either mechanical stirring (continuous or intermittent) or gas or liquid circulation may be used (Angenent & Dague, 1995; Ndon & Dague, 1997; Zaiat et al., 2001). [4]

By using enough Vinegar, we can mix to our heart's content right in the container, and don't need to worry as much about dripping the solution slowly into the tank. We have already driven the reaction all the way to the desired outcome, and provided ample CO2 to produce a balance of free Calcium ions and free Bicarbonate ions. [10]
I am in the market for a new single tank bicarb mixer. I would like to have a 100 gallon tank with float switches for filling different levels and a mixing timer that will shut the mixer off after a specified time. [11]
graphicPump Uses
Cell membranes have a sodium/potassium pump which pumps potassium into the cell and sodium out of the cell. This is necessary to maintain water balance and the electrical gradient of nerve and muscle cells. [12]
Store in a spray-pump bottle, shake well before use, and use on a mist setting. Pour into small molds, pierce the shapes with a knitting needle when cool, and hang up in front of windows or heating outlets where air will pass over them. [13]
When the blood begins getting too acidic, the kidney cells pump out more acid. When the blood is too alkaline (basic), they secrete less. [14]
graphicBicarb Fluid
Bentonite is not technically a buffer, it swells when in contact with ruminal fluids. The action is to slow down the rate of passage, it is included in diets at 300-400 grams per cow per day. [20]
Rapid injection (10 mL/min) of hypertonic sodium bicarbonate injection solutions into neonates and children under 2 years of age may produce hypernatraemia, a decrease in cerebrospinal fluid pressure and possible intracranial haemorrhage. In emergency situations, such as cardiac arrest, the risk of rapid infusion of the drug must be weighed against the potential for death from acidosis. [21]
Bicarbonate was initially used in the peritoneal dialysis (PD) fluid, but it was soon replaced with lactate when it was found that calcium carbonate precipitated within the peritoneum. Lately (at least in Europe) acetate became available as an alkalinizing agent. [22]

Bicarbonate of soda will also snuff out electrical fires and flames on clothing, wood, upholstery and carpets. Remove age stains by mixing a solution of 1?4 cup of bicarbonate of soda in one litre of warm water. [28]
